How I Teach
I make use of a mixture of traditional and non-traditional methods, and I pride myself on being gentle, patient, and imaginative about finding ways to make the mysteries of music accessible to anyone who wants to learn. I won't just hand you an exercise book and say "This week we'll do page 12." I will work with you to help you develop your ability, at whatever level, and find the joy of playing, singing, and creating music.
Will I ask you to learn scales and other standard elements of music instruction? Yes - those are important. But I may also introduce you to the basics of playing by ear, improvisation, chord construction, or other "advanced" concepts far sooner than a traditional instructor would.
If you have questions about how I teach, or about what "beginner" and "intermediate" mean in my lexicon, please feel free to e-mail me!
